Kickstarter Update (October 2016)

Kickstarter Update (October 2016)

The first run of books has been delivered to our home, so that we could do a final review before public release.  They are amazing!  Which is fortunate, because having 100 failed books would be heartbreaking.

The Coloring Retreat was a huge success.  The supporters attending got their copies before anyone else.  They also got great food, professional massages, instruction by katie… even guided meditation.  It was a fun weekend.

The rest of the books will be shipped to Amazon for fulfillment in the next week and should be shipping  to supporters by mid-October (US) and a couple weeks after that Internationally, barring any complications.

Header Image

I just added the header image (May 10, 2016).  Details for those that are interested:

The picture is of me, sitting at the picnic table on our back deck, in Athens, Ohio.  We are so glad we chose to come here for our early retirement.  You can’t do much art outside in Alberta – the mittens slow you down too much.

The surrounding artwork is a super-zoomed-in chunk of one of my coloring pages.  I keep looking at it with a combination of worry and amazement.

Amazement = it is entirely hand drawn, and yet when I zoom in that far there are still no flaws.  No significant wobbles, or line whiskers.  I’m pretty darn happy with the quality, and the ability to digitally harvest a piece and still have it look great.

Worry = zoomed in that far the lines look huge!  Nobody panic!  The lines were drawn with superfine pens, not the permanent markers you use to write the contents on a moving box.

Book One Kickstarter – Coming in July

The Vision

The fine paper. The intricate details of pen work. The spiral binding so the book cooperates and lays flat rather than you having to color inside a Venus Fly Trap. The larger size pages with borders and mats drawn, ready for even the simplest of frames to complete the work. The supporting YouTube videos for tutorials to add additional penwork before you color.  Also time lapse videos of some of the pages being created.

The Kickstarter

Somewhere close to the start of July 2016 I will launch my Kickstarter campaign.  I will share with the browsing community my vision for Book One (with two more in various stages of completion.)

With Kickstarter I do not have to hawk my wares to publishers hoping somebody sees my vision, I just put it in front of the colorers (colorists?  colorians? artists!) and ask if they are interested.  A successful Kickstarter will fund the initial printing of books and shipping them out into peoples’ hands. It also will help get set up for Amazon distribution going forward.

I have seen so many amazing coloring books self-publish this way and truly believe in the value and vote that comes from crowd funding.

Please consider being among the first to get a book!  Support my vision of an upscale coloring experience and you will also get an opportunity to receive some special promotional pieces through the Kickstarter campaign.

Send us your email if you would like to get the launch news first.

(Note from the supportive husband: I haven’t set up a way to do the email bit yet.  Workin’ on it!)
